This has been developed over the years but the basic premise of this rating system is as follows:

Bottle One – The Space.

This is the box the event is built in and it is often all about location, location, location.

Bottle Two – The Decor and Ambiance.

This is what often makes an event special and includes lighting, decorations, and the landscape created by the promoter.

Bottle Three – The Music.

Music, the key to any good event, including any entertainment or acts, it is a major and key ingredient to success.

Bottle Four – The Beauty and Community Factory.

This is a bit more esoteric and relates to things that add pop to an event, a special value, something unique and most of all the crowd or community attending the event.

Bottle Five – The Overall Experience.

This is a bit of the catch all to the rating, including everything from how long does it take to get a drink at the bar, how clean and orderly the bathrooms are, and the overall presentation from entry to exit of the event.

Five elements – five bottles of water.

Grass Roots Gay Rights West (GRGR/West), producers of the annual REAL BAD fundraising party that follows San Francisco’s world-renowned Folsom Street Fair, today announced the beneficiaries and DJ for REAL BAD XXII. Five LGBT health and community service organizations, listed below, will share 100 percent of the funds raised by ticket sales to this historically sold-out event. Last year, REAL BAD XXI raised $150,000 for worthy charities, reaching an important milestone of over $1 million donated to charities over the event’s history. This year’s DJ, chosen from nearly 20 applicants, is Atlanta-based Sean Mac. REAL BAD XXII will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

The organizations named as beneficiaries of REAL BAD XXII represent diverse causes within the LGBT community. The beneficiary organizations are Maitri, The National AIDS Memorial Grove
,
Project Open Hand, San Francisco Suicide Prevention, and Visual Aid. “One of the goals we set for ourselves this year is to weave REAL BAD’s record of contribution even further into the tapestry of San Francisco life. To do that, we are building relationships with an ever-growing number of non-profits. That effort is a central part of our mission statement,” said Richard Dellefave, event chair for REAL BAD XXII. “We are delighted to welcome back Maitri and VisualAid for the second of our two-year commitment to them, to make a restricted grant to the National AIDS Memorial Grove and to begin new two-year relationships with San Francisco Suicide Prevention and Project Open Hand.”

GRGR/West today also announced that the DJ selected for REAL BAD XXII is Sean Mac of Atlanta. As part of the duo “Yoshi Mac” with Robert Ito, Mac was known for his late-night sets at Atlanta’s legendary afterhours venue “Body Shop.” He built on that reputation with peak-hour, T-dance and early morning parties, eventually landing a two-night gig spinning the pre-parties for Lady Gaga’s “Monster Ball” tour in Atlanta, and for Mark Baker’s “Welcome to Wonderland” pool party during gay Disney week in Orlando. Nearly 20 applicants competed for the opportunity to play at REAL BAD XXII. Mac was selected by a panel of judges based on a blind review of the finalists’ demo sets.

REAL BAD XXII will feature world-class lighting, lasers and video production. The lighting show and operations will be provided by Guy Smith Lighting. The laser show will be provided by Laseronics and Kyle Garner. Video production will be provided by Rob Montenegro.

The Juice Box and Juicy Fruit Jim are proud sponsors of GRGR/West and REAL BAD XXII.

Happy Pride San Francisco.

I know many of you are still trying to figure out what you are going to do during this amazing weekend line up, with so many parties, dances, and events, it is dizzying to try and sort it out. But no matter what you do there will be enough rainbows and glitter to make any one proud. So, with that The Juice Box and Juicy Fruit Jim give you a gentle nudge of consideration for attending The Disco.

Many things come to mind when selecting the perfect pride party to attend, but none could make us here at The Juice Box prouder than having one (or actually a few) of our own actualy perform. Yes, guest reviewer, all around great guy, and rising superstar DJ Steve Sherwood is opening this party, and for those of you who have followed his podcasts and attended some of his gigs, you know what I mean. Steve Sherwood first began listening to electronic music in the late 90′s. He quickly fell for the harder side of dance music and became a regular at underground raves held in the Arizona desert. In the summer of 2000, he moved to San Francisco and quickly fell in love with the local dance scene that included parties like Universe, Pleasuredome, Mass, Fag Fridays, Trannyshack, and Sugar. After a year of immersing himself in San Francisco’s vibrant musical culture Steve bought a pair of turntables and began crafting his own unique sound that incorporates the happier elements of vocal, disco, tribal, and progressive house with occasional forays into techno and trance. A decade later he finds himself in the heart of the San Francisco dance scene eagerly giving back to a community that has provided him so many wonderful memories and friendships.

So why go to the disco? Really – do you have to ask me? Do I have to answer? Well yes I do. The Disco is bringing you the incredible, uplifting sound of San Francisco’s home grow DJ Steve Sherwood and the late night sound of DJ Lydia Prim (another Juice Box favorite) completely hitting the DJ category! Add to that a special performance by our San Francisco home town band Ejector! And if that is not enough, our own Goddesses of Glitter and Juice Box contributors, Suzan Revah and Joanna Parks along with their posse of great talent will bring you the ever fun shows and entertainment for the evening!

So, please put on your dancing shoes and invite your friends to celebrate with you as The Disco team transforms club Mezzanine into a pride wonderland from 10PM to 5AM Saturday night. Do you need more convincing and more incentive? Do you have your tickets yet? Why not?!!!? Get out there now and hit up one of the local outlets (Sui Generis, Body/Citizen, or MR. S Leather) or get on-line today and take part of the promotional discount being offered through the Folsom Street Events “Folsom Online Ticket Sales” using the coupon code “GOTPRIDE”.

Have a great, safe, and fun Pride 2010, no matter what you do.
For a Juice Box guide to SF Pride events, be sure to check out The Juice Box SF Pride Edition.

Happy Pride from the crew at The Juice Box – juicing up your night life in San Francisco and beyond!
