October 15, 2011 – Tristan Jaxx puts a lot of hard work into his parties. He promotes endlessly, but there is something about his way of promoting that doesn’t seem invasive. It might have to do with the fact that there is something intimate with Chaos. It’s kind of like, “Hey, come to my party at the BeatBox. This is the kind of music I like to hear and I just want you to be a part of it.” It might also have something to do with him just being a genuinely nice guy with gorgeously good looking friends who go to the very same parties that we do. He has an understanding of exactly what we want to experience on the dance floor. In either case, it’s a formula that is leading to success.

Tonight the headliner was Alex Acosta, Mexico’s “DJ Sensation.” Alex definitely lives up to his name. He’s full of energy and really communicates his passion for music to the audience well. As we all know, the scene is constantly evolving. Alex Acosta’s brand of tribal house music reaches a broad audience. You see, tribal house music can be very tricky. For those who like it, they live by it, but for those who do not like it as much, they stay away from it. What Alex is able to do well is incorporate the mainstream with his tribal house remixes and then progress to a more tech-house underground sound.

There were quite a few tracks that the audience absolutely loved. It was quite a privilege to hear some of them that were yet to be released. Two of them come to mind. One was Alex’s tribal drums dub mix of Amannda’s “The Only One.” It had very refreshing tribal samples with just enough driving vocals infused with that addictive circuit horn. The other was Alex’s big room mix of Yinon Yahel’s “I Like It” featuring Maya Simantov. This remix had a dark sexual rhythm to it. It really invoked your inner passion and reminded you that Alex Acosta is fine tuned to the nightlife. What sets him apart is the fact that he is a producer and remixer. Instead of just possessing a collection of music Alex is able to create his own. This vision and directional quality delivers a unique experience.

Another tune that really established the tribal house rhythm was DJ Chus’ “A Night Summer Dream (Antranig vs Alex Acosta).” DJ Chus is a part of the new Iberican League, which represents the best in tribal house music. A song that veered away from the tribal aspect and towards the electro house genre was the Fedde Le Grand Vocal Mix of Rye Rye’s “Never Will Be Mine” featuring Robyn, but what it shared with the tribal house songs was that dirty sexy sound combined with Robyn’s dramatic vocals. Fiery diva vocals and a strong bass line had us grooving and Alex Acosta’s 2011 Personal Mix of Pepper Mashay’s “Dive In The Pool” got us jumping up and down.

It truly is wonderful to have an international DJ/Producer/Remixer such as Alex Acosta to grace San Francisco’s BeatBox. A big congratulations to Tristan Jaxx who is really establishing the identity for Chaos. There is real potential and it could very well be the beginning of a Saturday evening ritual!
