Liking visiting the Wailing Wall, walking along the via Dolorosa, or turning daily to Mecca, attending the RVT (Royal Vauxhall Tavern) is a religious experience for the faithful loyalists of this little slice of heaven in the Vauxhall community of London. Every Sunday, and Mondays of bank holiday weekends, church is in session and the hands in the air praise starts.
Under the command of a set of DJ Masters, Simon Le Vans, Andy Almighty, Sean Sirrs, and Rob C, the music is pure vocal bliss with a masterful level of layering and a sophisticated display of artistry. Simon Le Vans has the task for warming up the crowd and building the energy as the crowd arrives and prepares for the diva delivery of the Dame Edna Experience. Following the show, Andy Almighty takes the helm for a musical journey unlike many others, weaving and layering some of the most amazing tracks from classic anthems to the latest 7th Heaven productions. If the set played by Andy is anything like what he plans to bring to San Francisco for the REACH Pride T-dance, then we are in for a great treat. Rob C takes the late shift on the Bank Holiday weekend Sunday shows, to give a chunkier, but still lifting and exciting level of musical enterprise for the crowd to dance the night away. In fact it was Rob C’s set that brought us back from Salvation to wind out the evening at the Tavern. At the end of it all you get Sean Sirrs to close out the Monday night party. I want to call out that Sean’s set was spot on a perfect way to end a long weekend. After a lot of parties and a lot of dancing I could not tear myself away as he layered classic tunes with epic trance all in a way that had the boys (and some girls) bouncing around, jumping and hollering, as if they were at some major soccer match. It was as much fun to see the crowd reaction as to be on the dance floor dancing. In fact it was energizing enough for me to hop on stage and offering some time with my flagging to a very appreciative crowd.
This is truly a little slice of heaven in the dance club scene. The crowd is ever faithful to the space and the DJs. It is as if you have gone to a family reunion (where they all like each other) and have a party to celebrate together. Warm and friendly faces, happiness and joy.
