There are few places around the world that can pull together a more special and intimate evening of fun, dancing and amazing music, for the perfect size club with about 400 people, that ultimately makes it like throwing a party for your friends. The RVT, Royal Vauxhall Tavern, is just that place, and on NYE the volume is turned up just a bit and the fun as special as one needs for the ringing out the old and bringing in the new.

Arriving early, after a lovely gathering at a local friends home to start the night, the queues were not very long and we were in the club and out of the cold in about 15 minutes. Coats checked, drinks in hand, and greetings of the many friends we knew completed, we grabbed a spot in front of the balcony railing for the show that would start at about 10PM.

The Dame Edna Experience show on New Year’s Eve is always special and full of non-stop vocal talents. Unlike her normal weekly show, this one is all about the music and she performs some of her best numbers. This year’s favorite was “When Edna Takes Over” sung to the song of “When Love Takes Over”, making for a perfect new version of that song to sit my head now. The show was punctuated by a performance addition of Alison Jiear (known for singing “I Just Wanna Dance”, “Aquarius”, “Let the Sunshine In”) when she joined the stage and sang her hit “I Just Wanna Dance” as well “It’s Raining Men”. The crowd was enthusiastic and significantly wound up for the count down to begin.

Simon Le Vans played a wonderful opening set, dropping the right music to warm up the crowd prior to the show. The set had all of the classic anthems and high energy music to get you bouncing and starting to bounce along while the crowd grew. After the show Andy Almighty took the decks and pounded out the classic Almighty sound with great classic including the new Cher “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me”, “Say Hello Wave Goodbye”, “You Were Always on My Mind”, and “Evergreen”. Andy’s set gave us a classic to current set of songs to raise your hands in the air and sing-a-long and dance. Sean Sirrs took the final round on the decks for the night, winding the music up and playing a vocal trance set that was just what you need to dance through the night including one of my favorite tracks “You Take My Breath Away”.

Wrapping up the evening, a few loyal attendees, made it until the very last song was played. The crowd throughout the night was friendly, full of smiles, welcoming and really does feel like you are partying with your close family at the club. Really the perfect combination of fun, frivolity and sexy attitude in one room. And as we left the club applauding the DJs for a wonderful evening, great memories were tucked nicely away and one can certainly think there is no better place to ring in the New Year’s than at the RVT in London.
