I almost didn’t go to Adonis, after all I was just back from Vanity in Seattle and IML in Chicago, and I was just not feeling another circuit party was needed, in other words I was tired, hadn’t planned to go, and this party was not on my radar. Then Suzan mentioned it was Brett Henrichsen and Lee Decker spinning; Steven mentioned it was at Club NV again, and next thing you know I was going out.

Our posse got there a bit after midnight – it really did take some effort to get there because we were all tired, had a lot to do on Sunday, etc. We took Graig on a tour of the club layout seeing as he had never been to this club. I like Club NV a lot. The layout, the stage & a real backroom upstairs – it all works for me. One thing that doesn’t work for me at this club is that parts of the dance floor get really slippery once the temperature rises. And the temperature always rises especially when they keep the upstairs closed off (which they did again this time).

Brett Henrichsen was already spinning and had boys moving on the dance floor which got our little posse dancing right away. Adonis started to get a crowd but never felt crowded. I’m sure Gay Days at Disney and the weekend after Memorial Day and the weekend before LA Pride kept the crowd light. Brett is best when he has this “giddy-up” beat moving through his mixes and he didn’t disappoint except when he felt like he needed to slow the music down. I always thought DJs used this device to give the crowd a break but Brett was doing it pretty frequently. So while some moments had me dancing as much as my tired ass was going to allow me, it would all slow down too quickly for me and I could never sustain a groove for long. I know he had just spun a big party in LA and was headed to Salt Lake City Pride the next day so maybe he was just taking it easy on us and him.

The lights were fun. Never felt over-powering and added some good moments to the musical highs. The temperature did indeed rise, the tiled part of the floor got really slippery but that was fine because in the end, there was room to move. Even though the upstairs bathrooms were closed, the 2 downstairs stayed clean (there ends up being a secret one that as a girl, I really appreciate they let me use because it’s always clean) and this, I always appreciate.

After a couple of hours, we were all ready to leave. I was happy I went. The boys that were there were mostly well behaved; I got some cardio exercise, and supported a space I like (even though they kept the upstairs closed off).

Yay for Joanna’s first Juice Box review, and she hit all the highlights. This night at Adonis was classic “Saturday night cardio.” When you’re a year-round circuit whore, conditioning is essential, and missing a single weekend on the dancefloor can really hurt the body, mind, and spirit. Even though we were in and out of Adonis in just 2 hours, we worked up a sweat and got our dance on with Miss Miller, who always keeps it real, and we got to show our support for Gus, Brett, and Lee. Totally worth it!
