Traditionally, the Saturday pool party at White Party Palm Springs is the best attended and really a great opportunity to see the size and scope of the crowd in town is for the weekend festivities. This year was no different.

The day was picture perfect, even after a morning that was overcast and windy and the temperatures could not have been better, which I think brought out the the crowd in full force, filling the pool area of the Renaissance hotel. DJ Brett Henrichsen was at the helm for this party with his Masterbeat sound and props, and had a group of boys and girls running around the pool handing out sweat bands and temporary tattoos. Sadly, there was nothing really memorable about the set being spun at the pool party, and in this reviewer’s opinion it was a little dark and heavy for an event like a pool party. This was most noticeable in the rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” that was played, near the end of the pool party, which had a darker and heavier sound, missing the opportunity on a gorgeous day to have that lighter, more fun, Gaga sound.

The DJ set was also broken for a live performance by Pepper Mashay with “Dive Into the Pool”, and while the song is a classic, it is a bit cliche for the event. Ms. Mashay was flanked by three flaggers, two of whom were from San Francisco (John Wong and Keith Loring), adding a splash of color to the show.

Finally, there was the lack of cleared out dance space near the main stage to accommodate the crowd for dancing. Now this crowd dances almost anywhere around the pool, but it would nice to have a more centrally located dance area, to bring people together for a good time dancing. However, everyone makes due and dances around the lounge chairs for the pool.

So in summary, I would comment that this was one of the best attended pool parties I have seen in recent years. It had a mix of ages, races, and types – a virtual something for everyone. The crowd was friendly as well, making for an overall fun day, pool side at White Party Palm Spring 21.
