Well it happened – Dame Edna is risen and the SLAGS/Chill Out Risen Party was a total blast on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday.
The lovely thing bout the Monday party at the Tavern is that it brings out the Tavern faithful to dance, laugh, socialize and wind down from a long clubbing weekend in the London scene. The men are back, the clubbers are in some other location, and the folks that come on Monday come because they love this little rift in the time space continuum on Kennington Lane, and this Monday was no exception.
The Dame Edna show was started with some fun comedy and took a slower pace, with more ballads than I personally like, but the quality was there as usual. I just prefer to get the music moving during the show and wind it up so that by the time “I Just Wanna Dance” comes on I am ready to bounce up and down and really enjoy the next 5 hours of classic anthems. It is interesting to note that Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” seems to have gained anthem status in a very short time, and was sung at full vocal from the attendees at the Tavern before breaking into the classic closing number of “I Just Wanna Dance” that ends Simon Le Vans time on the decks and kicks into gear with Andy Almighty. Andy managed to push in all of the amazing anthems you could want, including a personal favorite of “I Promise Myself”, raising the voices and the spirits of the Tavern to full volume. Following a great Almighty anthems set, Sean Sirrs took over the decks for what has to be one of the best sets I have ever heard him spin. I especially loved the mix of classic anthems that lead to a longer trance set towards the end of the evening (with one amazing song about Oxygen I need to find) that had me dancing hands over my head, holding on the nearest cute guy, and cutting it up on the dance floor with old and new friends.
Thank you RVT for being what you are and giving us the Monday classics and chill out party – this is the primary reason I return to London over and over again.
