So, I did not make it down to San Diego for San Diego Pride and the Zoo Party, on of my favorite outdoor T-Dances, but that was quite all right by me. Instead I took a took of tour of duty at Fresh and to celebrate Suzan Revah’s (The Original Fag Hag – see link on right menu bar) birthday.
With a few friends accompanying me, and more that were convinced to go as we talked about it at an earlier gathering, I knew we would have a fun group to spend the evening with. And as Ray said several times to me “It’s all about friends tonight” and that was just what it was.
Suzan and the dancers did a fantastic job on the stage, and it was obvious but the whistling and cheering that came up as Suzan danced along the catwalk with a disco ball in her hands across a backdrop of pictures of herself. I know I got chills and joined in the revelry of watching her take the crowd.
Musically speaking, I would say DJ Dan DeLeon started out the evening a little hard, driving, and not in what I would classify as a T-dance style, but he seemed to ease up through the night and started treating us to classics from the Pussy Cat Dolls (I know hard to believe I could call the Pussy Cat Dolls classic), and many others. Sadly, for no real reason, at 830 DJ Dan DeLeon chose to give us the first of many drop outs. The drop outs seemed at best ill timed against any solid music build that was going on, and sometimes the drops felt more like I was kicked off a high cliff, left to find the bottom the hard way. As the night progressed it seemed to be that the music was improving, and by 10:00, most of my group would say that Dan had recovered from the early drop out festival and kept us dancing with some very cool mash ups of Umbrella, and other great classic diva-driven t-dance music.
Overall the crowd was cool, but a few times Ray, Mike, Micheal and I found ourselves in what we affectionately called Toy Land. I guess we are really getting older, because there were some young guys out last night and the age gap seemed interesting. It also seemed that the entire party was running a little lighter than normal, which I attribute to San Diego Pride taking away many of the regulars, while many others are saving themselves for Up Your Alley Weekend and Lazy Bear.
Thanks to Ray, Michael, Mike, Jeff, Rick, Keith and especially Suzan, for getting us out to Fresh to celebrate and have a fun night out.
I’ve got chills all over again reading your sweet review. Thanks so much for the birthday love (a Juicy tour of duty is a grand gift indeed!), and for contributing to the amazing energy in the house. I loved seeing your smile from the gogo box and can’t wait until our next twirl on the floor. I gots big love for The Juice!
