February 2009 Events (with a little bit of January on the side)

Posted 20-Jan-2009 to Calendar

January has been a full book of events in the San Francisco club scene, and while this is meant to be a February posting, I am including a couple reminders for the January events that are happening before the month is out. So much is going on over the month, make sure you mark your calendars and plan carefully, as there are certainly some not to be missed events on this list. Also, check out the new fresh new design of the Juice Box. Thanks to my ever loving – ever caring – ever tolerant life-partner, and the graphic talents of a dear friend from down under, the Juice Box takes the next step forward with a new look. I am so excited I could practically squeeze myself. Thanks to all of you for your support that has kept me energized enough to want to keep doing this community service. With that, here are the events, and I will see many of you somewhere under that shiny disco ball and the wonderful dance floor lights.

Ghetto Disco

The End Up – 6th and Harrison Street, San Francisco
11:00PM to Late

DJ Frank Wild will be grabbing the opening set at The End Up this Friday. Frank has been building quite a great musical repertoire as well as a resume for hitting some great events throughout Europe. If you are looking for a way to kick-off what will be a quiet weekend, following the amazing level of events on MLK weekend, this is the place to be. Head over to the San Francisco standard, The End Up, and kick down some great moves to the groves of Frank Wild and Ghetto Disco.

SATURDAY, 31 JANUARY, 2009

Space 550 – 550 Barneveld Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to Late

DJ Rob Kaftan and DJ Kevin Lee will be on deck for a great night of drop your pants and dance action. I have suggested Underworld on several occasions before and do suggest that if you have never been to one of these parties that you give it a try. It is really not so bad; as the staff makes it very easy to do the coat check/clothes check and get yourself out of your pants and onto the dance floor. Go check out In Jeanous Lounge on Castro for the latest underwear selections and to find something cute and just perfect for the underwear party. Flow artists love this space as well because there is a great stage with plenty of black light to use, and nothing looks better than some hot underwear glowing in the black light.

H.O.M

Infusion Lounge - 124 Ellis @ Powell, San Francisco
5:00PM to Midnight

This is a brand new party for San Francisco, and it is by some folks who have brought such great parties as Industry and Matinee, so in that spirit you need to check this one out, at a brand new club space in San Francisco. And let me tell you, they are bringing over an amazing Grammy nominated team talent from the UK, Moto Blanco, for their first US appearance. This is certainly not an event to miss and I am sorry on my first announcements for the month I did. I will be there, dancing shoes ready, and hoping to make this new SF T-Dance an amazing experience.

THURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARY, 2009

IBR weekend kicks off with a whole weekend full of events and far too many for the Juice Box to even begin to take a stab at. However, you will see my party suggestions below for the IBR weekend, many of which will be focused on the IBR crowd.

FRIDAY, 13 FEBRUARY, 2009

DNA Lounge – 375 11th Street, San Francisco
9:00PM to 4:00AM

Bearracuda brings in the 3rd installment of Magnum and it is back at DNA Lounge, with plenty of room for the bear community to gather in mass and dance. DJ Tony Ruiz and DJ Pete “Jester” Savas will be grabbing the main floor and throwing down some hot dance tracks to get those bodies moving, while upstairs DJ Funky Bear and DJ Boyshapedbox will be grabbing the smaller floor for a different sound to grove to. Flow artists be sure to bring along your toys, this club will have black lights furnished by yours truly to enjoy spinning to your heart’s content.

SATURDAY, 14 FEBRUARY, 2009 – Valentine’s Day

Slim’s – 333 11th Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to 2:00AM

The guys from the east coast are back for another installment of this event. I would classify Blow Off as almost a tavern like social dance, where drinking, dancing, socializing and cruising all come together for a harmonious mix of fun and a hot crowd. Note, this event ends early, so it is a good idea to show up early, if not at opening time. I also advise that you pre-purchase your tickets for this event in advance, as it is likely on IBR weekend to sell out.

Gus Presents Adonis

Space 550 – 550 Barneveld Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to Late

This is another installment of the monthly dance party and on Valentine’s night. DJ Tony Moran returns to San Francisco and Space 550 for a little romantic night of hot dance music. The last set Tony spun in San Francisco was amazing, fun, and full of the hits I love. So if you have a partner, bring him, and if you are searching for one, maybe you will find them here at this dance party. And as noted, 550 Barneveld has a great space for Flow Artists to strut their stuff under lots of black light.

SUNDAY, 15 FEBRUARY, 2009

DNA Lounge – 375 11th Street, San Francisco
5:00PM to Midnight

Ok, if there is one event you do not want to miss on IBR weekend it is this one. The PLAY team will be presenting the amazing London talent, DJ Andy Almighty. Known for an amazing style of high energy music, layering in song over song over song, to build an amazing peak of energy and buzz, that will ultimately cause you head to explode with excitement (deep breaths juicy). I cannot say enough about how excited I am to have Andy in San Francisco after going to London to hear him several times this year that famous Royal Vauxhall Tavern (RVT). This event will be complete with sing along participation from the SLAGS (South London Action Girls Society) San Francisco Edition and a performance by the wonderful original fag hag, Suzan Revah and team. Flow artists know that this is one of the best stages to play on in San Francisco, so be ready to spin away to this amazing night of music that wind you up and set you free to explore the other events later in the city.

Ruby Skye – 420 Mason Street, San Francisco
6:00PM to Midnight

While I will not be able to attend this event due to the fact I will be letting my head explode over at PLAY, this will none- the-less be a great alternative party featuring long time San Francisco favorite DJ Phil B. This is the 7th anniversary of Fresh, and I wish they could have planned this on another weekend because I hate to miss a chance to hear Phil B spin his magic, but alas, this is a holiday weekend and San Francisco does nothing if not overwhelm the party goers on long weekends.

Club 1015 – 1015 Folsom Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to Late

DJ Tracy Young and DJ John LePage will be hitting the decks to bring you a wonderful night of dance music that will go until the small hours of the morning. This event will cap off another amazing holiday weekend of dance parties, and for those of you who have President’s day off or those of you taking it off to recover from the weekend, you will be able to have a wonderful extension to your evening. So whether you are at PLAY (my first choice) or Fresh, head over to 1015 following those events, and keep your dance grove going at Club 1015. Flow artists can also keep their energy going with the ever popular flagging stage as well.

SATURDAY, 21 FEBRUARY, 2009

Industry

Mighty – 119 Utah Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to Late

DJ Rosabel returns to San Francisco for the next installment of Industry. This is sure to be a hot ticket for the night and another great place to bust out a few dance groves as Ralphi and Able drop some hot tracks down for their famous sound. No flagging stage this month, but come for the music, stay for the hot crowd.

Porn Star by Salon Nights

Cat Club – 1190 Folsom Street, San Francisco
10:00PM to Late

The next installment of Porn Star is brewing up and it looks like some hot plans. However, as of my publication I cannot share any information on the party. I will try to provide an update to this event as the month rolls along.
