December Events – Update
Posted 16-Dec-2008 to CalendarThere is so much going on this holiday season, I was bound to find some events I missed or some that more details became available. With that, I present an updated list of event choices through the end of the year and into your New Year’s Eve fun.
Friday, December 19
Ghetto Disco
The End Up, Sixth and Harrison Street, San Francisco – 11PM to 1AM
Featuring DJ Robbie Martin, DJ Frank Wild, DJ Joe Hickerson
A mainstay of the Friday night dance scene, Ghetto Disco at The End Up is a great way to kick off any weekend. This Friday, start your final weekend before Christmas with a night great beats by a trio of great DJs – Robbie, Frank and Joe. The music and the crowd should be groovy and the scene a bit on the edge I am sure. Always a pleaser!
Saturday, December 20
Bearracuda
Deco Lounge, 510 Larkin Street @ Turk, San Francisco – 9PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Pete ‘Jester’ Savas
As mentioned earlier, Bearracuda is a little dance party that sometimes has some real big names, and this Saturday does not miss that chance. As the last of the events for Bears, Cubs, and other Wildlife, this party is hosting DJ Pete ‘Jester’ Savas of Salt Lake City and of Real Bad XXVIII fame. Check out this alternative Saturday night event for something different, but be ready for a larger than life crowd, full of furry beasties! Note to flow artists – No space at all to use flow toys at this event.
Pornstar
The Cat Club, 1190 Folsom Street, San Francisco – 10PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ James Andersen and DJ Wayne Michael
I have not yet been to one of these events, but several people have raved about them as something fun and different to do. These are dances with a touch of porn start added to sex it up a bit. So come down and check out the last Pornstar of 2008 and see what it is all about.
Sunday, December 21
Fresh
Ruby Skye, 420 Mason Street, San Francisco – 10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Kimberly S
This is the Fresh Holiday Party and as usual should be packed with the party-goers looking to kick off the Christmas week in style. Kimberly is one of the mainstays of Fresh so the music should get your sleigh-bells dancing in the right direction. Note to flow artists – there is no dedicated flow arts space here, but you will see flow artists on the main floor early and on the stage behind the DJ or near the DJ occasionally, as well as the occasional flagger on the cat walk.
Thick
Club Eight – 1151 Folsom Street, San Francisco – 11PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone
Luke will keep your ho-ho-holiday dance vibe going immediate following Fresh. Maybe worth a stop by and bring some mistletoe in case you can find that special someone to help your dance your holidays away. Note to flow artists – this is a small club space, but does have a box/stage like area to the right as you get to the dance floor, so flow arts are possible, depending on the crowd size.
Friday, December 26
Ghetto Disco
The End Up, Sixth and Harrison Street, San Francisco
11PM to 1AM
Featuring DJ Billy Carroll, DJ Scotty Thomson and DJ Hawthorne
This is a great way to get away from the holiday celebrations, and maybe the family as well. Head on over to The End Up and hit the dance floor for the Friday mainstay of Ghetto Disco. Great music, great edgy crowds, and lots of fun, and with many people visiting there is likely to be folks you have never seen before (aka fresh meat).
Saturday, December 27
Good Time Love Club
Underground SF, 424 Haight St., San Francisco – 9PM to 2AM
Featuring DJ Hawthorne and DJ Sean Greene
A groovy little dance party in a tiny little space, come hear the beats slapped down by Hawthorne (someone is going to be busy that night) and Sean Greene. This little party should pack a good punch and serves as a small alternative to Industry or a warm up act to Industry/Twisted.
Industry
Mighty, 119 Utah Street, San Francisco – 10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Ralphi Rosario and DJ Luke Johnstone
Looks like a great opportunity as Ralphi Rosario makes a rare San Francisco appearance working with Luke Johnstone on the tables. Industry is always a crowd pleaser so if you are in town, it is a great way to end your Christmas Holiday week. I am also told that special performances will be by Caroline Lund & Bebe Sweetbriar. Additionally, check out DJ’s Hawthorne, DJ Pornstar & MC2 in the Tobygo Room, hosted By Cookie Dough and special performances by Suzan Revah, Charisma Glitterati & the Tobygo Boys.
Sunday, December 28
Twisted After-Hours
The Cat Club, 1190 Folsom Street, San Francisco
3AM to 10AM (Following Industry)
Following as an after party this time to Industry, you should be able to find your way to a party to dance until the sun comes up. The last Twisted After-Hours, following Black XXXMas had some of the best music of the weekend, so hopefully this party will not disappoint as well. Note to flow artists – Cat Club has no real space for flow arts, but there are a couple of boxes on either side of the dance floor, if you feel so inclined to strut your stuff.
Wednesday, December 31
Adonis by Gus Presents
Space 550, 550 Barneveld Street, San Francisco – 10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Twisted Dee, DJ Alexander and DJ Blaine Soileau, plus DJ Pornstar in the Electro Room
This will be the big Gus style holiday event with a balloon drop, champagne toast, party favors, and complimentary breakfast if you make through the 12 hour dance marathon. Barneveld is an interesting space to head for New Year’s Eve and is far out there if you do not drive. Be prepared to wait long for a cab, and be careful if you choose to drive. The musical talents should be amazing to hear as this is the San Francisco Premiere for Twisted Dee and adding Alexander and Blaine to the list just means more great music. Note to flow artists – Perfect space for flow arts – lots of black light and a big open stage.
Thursday, January 1
Mass by Gus Presents
Club 1015, 1015 Folsom Street, San Francisco – 6PM to Midnight
Featuring DJ Phil B
Gus brings back the Mass Reunion T-Dance party for New Year’s Day. This should be a great party, if you still have the energy, with the amazing music of Phil B. Sorry, I cannot make this one, but I will be there in spirit with you. Note to flow artists – Club 1015 has a dedicated stage area in the main dance room that has new black lighting that is aimed at the stage. So bring out your flow toys and have a blast.
That takes you through an updated journey in December and into 2009.
Yours truly will be leaving the city for Chicago for Christmas Eve to visit with extended family, closely followed by a trip to London with my friends where we will spend New Year’s Eve at the RVT (Royal Vauxhall Tavern) followed by what should be an amazing party called Love Muscle at the Fridge, but then again I will be with my close friends (extended family) and that is good enough for me. Then we all catch the EuroStar to Belgium on New Year’s Day to attend La Demence in Brussels. So if you are in jolly old England, feel free to stop by and join us in some New Year celebrations.
Wishing you the happiest of holidays and I hope to see you soon under the magical dance floor lights!
