November Update – Thanksgiving Time
Posted 21-Nov-2008 to CalendarWow, where has this month gone. Thanksgiving is here already next week, and I can hardly believe it. The fun kicks off starting this Sunday on the dance floor and I hope you will join me for some of that fun times. However, whatever you do, I hope you are with the ones you love and take a moment to be thankful for something special in your lives. Ok, here is the mid-November update – it’s Thanksgiving!
SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 23
Fresh
Ruby Skye – 420 Mason Street, San Francisco
6PM to Midnight
Featuring DJ Wayne G, an all time favorite of mine, this party is always a crowd pleaser. The event starts at 6PM and usually has a discounted entry by 630PM, and while a smattering of boys and men will be here to dance earlier, the crowd really picks up at about 8PM. However, with the evenings getting dark earlier this might start picking up early again. The music should be pure Wayne G, high energy, vocals, anthems, and fun, fun, fun, with a great crowd and usually some very hot go-go dancers. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: This club does not have a dedicated flagging space, but often on the main dance floor early is acceptable, and sometimes behind the DJ booth as well, and just on rare occasions, some flaggers have been allowed and even asked to spin on the catwalk above the stage.
Thick
Club Eight – 1151 Folsom Street, San Francisco
11PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone, a good friend and someone I have enjoyed since the very first time I heard him spin at Flagging in the Park. The club is a small space, excellent for an afterhours space, and the music should carry you off to your Thanksgiving week festivities. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: This club does not have a dedicated flagging space.
SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 29
Industry
Mighty – 119 Utah, San Francisco
10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone and Robbie Martin will be spinning at what has come to be one of my favorite Saturday night parties. I can always count on a little fun, a little frivolity, some friskiness, and a pleasant night out. Luke is always a favorite DJ of mine, having met him for the first time at a Flagging in the Park event in the AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park a couple years ago. I have overtime gotten to know Luke and come to see him as a friend and an amazing producer full of energy for the love of the events in San Francisco. Additionally, I had the pleasure of working the coat check and spending some fun times with Robbie Martin at Bay of Pigs this year, so I am anxious to hear him on the tables again. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: There really is no flagging option at this party; however, early on the main dance floor is always an option.
Blowoff
Slims – 333 11th, San Francisco
10PM to 2AM
A rather successful event comes back for another round in San Francisco and it seems that folks are flying in from all over for this one again. So, take a stop by for some groovy tunes and a fun beefy sexy crowd. This is a great place to start your night and then end at a later event (maybe Industry?) if you have the energy. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: There really is no flagging option at this party.
That wraps up the Thanksgiving suggestions from the Juice Box. Sorry I have no reviews from last weekend, but I never made it out of the house to enjoy the parties for the weekend. Also, stay tuned for December, as Black XXXMas Returns for a little leather holiday dance feast!
See you soon under the magical dance floor lights!
