November Line Up

Posted 6-Nov-2008 to General

As the smoke and dust from elections clears, and as the protest marches wind up and down, I return to writing reviews and event suggestions. This is an early listing of things going on throughout the month and highlights of where I might just show up and dance, and as more events come up I will send out additional updates. So here are my juicy choices for the November line up.

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 8

The Good Time Love Club: A Dirty Little Dance Party

Underground SF – 424 Haight Street, San Francisco
10PM to 2AM

Billed as “The Obama Appreciation Party!”, the newest monthly party is this weekend at the Underground SF, a tiny little club on Haight Street that hosted fun parties in the past like Drunk and Horny. DJ Sean Greene and Sam Labelle will be at the decks for an evening of dancing, boozing and cruising. Parking in this part of town is really tragic, so take a cab, take the MUNI, or just walk. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: There is not likely to be any space for flow arts at this party, so leave the toys at home and head out to shake it all night long.

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 15

Gus Presents Underworld

Space 550 – 550 Barneveld, San Francisco
10PM to 6AM

This party will boast one of my favorites – DJ Ted Eiel from Chicago, along with DJ Kevin Lee at the Barneveld Space. This party is an underwear dance, so be prepared to drop your pants and dance. Now, you may ask what an underwear dance is all about, and what I can tell you is that it can be an awful lot of fun. I suggest you start now by shopping for those perfect Diesel, Aussie Bum, or 2xist underwear now (a great resource is Fresh Pair), and only hope you can find a pair that no one else will be sporting that night. Next, learn to deal with your inhibitions, as many of us are often very conscious about dropping our drawers in a public forum. However, I can say, once you do it, it is very easy to get into the spirit. The club tends to be warmer on these nights, to encourage the underwear spirit and with the music of chunky house music of Ted Eiel and the styling of Kevin Lee, I am sure you will work up a sweat. This party is one that continues to improve as the night goes on and the initial nerves wear off, so plan for a long night. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: As many old timers know, this place has a full stage with plenty of black light for flow arts, and just occasionally you will have to chase some “wanna be go-go boy” off the stage.

SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 16

Gus Presents Paradise Disco

Club 1015 – 1015 Folsom Street
6PM to Midnight

DJ Roland Belmares and Lee Decker will be on deck playing new music, dance hits and vocal anthems in the main room. DJ Steve Fabus, friend Paul Goodyear and Jason Kendig will be spinning classic disco styles in the Menergy Room. This should be a fun and easy T-Dance evening. Of course a favorite spot of mine, so if you have any energy left from the Underworld party, plan to stop by for an evening of fun. Note to the flaggers and flow artists; the new lighting at 1015 (according to a close friend’s report) has some black light range gobo spots that are aimed to the stage, so this should provide some flagging opportunities.

SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 23

Fresh

Ruby Skye – 420 Mason Street, San Francisco
6PM to Midnight

Featuring DJ Wayne G, an all time favorite of mine, this party is always a crowd pleaser. The event starts at 6PM and usually has a discounted entry by 630PM, and while a smattering of boys and men will be here to dance earlier, the crowd really picks up at about 8PM. However, with the evenings getting dark earlier this might start picking up early again. The music should be pure Wayne G, high energy, vocals, anthems, and fun, fun, fun, with a great crowd and usually some very hot go-go dancers. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: This club does not have a dedicated flagging space, but often on the main dance floor early is acceptable, and sometimes behind the DJ booth as well, and just on rare occasions, some flaggers have been allowed and even asked to spin on the catwalk above the stage.

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 29

Industry

Mighty – 119 Utah, San Francisco
10PM to Late

Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone and Robbie Martin will be spinning at what has come to be one of my favorite Saturday night parties. I can always count on a little fun, a little frivolity, some friskiness, and a pleasant night out. Luke is always a favorite DJ of mine, having met him for the first time at a Flagging in the Park event in the AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park a couple years ago. I have overtime gotten to know Luke and come to see him as a friend and an amazing producer full of energy for the love of the events in San Francisco. Additionally, I had the pleasure of working the coat check and spending some fun times with Robbie Martin at Bay of Pigs this year, so I am anxious to hear him on the tables again. Notes to flaggers and flow artists: There really is no flagging option at this party; however, early on the main dance floor is always an option.

Ok all my dancing friends see you soon under the magical dance floor lights!
