A Tale of a Street Fair, a Performance and a Birthday

The end of July always brings so many things to the city for me to enjoy.

First off, the Dore "Up Your Alley" Street Fair. This is a fun, small version, of Folsom Street, where the locals tend to be the ones attending and the out-of-town spectators leave their strollers at home.  This is the locals leather event.  This year the street fair did not disappoint, adding more events to the weekend line up and growing the potential of a great weekend at the end of July.

Second up was a new addition to this very fun and busy weekend, a Flow Arts experience.  As part of the production team of this event, we brought a "Flagging in the Park" event to Golden Gate Park and the AIDS Memorial Grove on Saturday..  This was my first FITP to produce and with the DJ talents of Don Tix and the availability of the sound system from Michael and the Gateway team, it was a true success.  We had about 50 people flagging at any given time and raised $500 for the Grove.  It was one of those days in San Francisco where the fog rolled back, the sun shined, and everyone was able to just enjoy themselves.  This was a great event.

Sunday, following the street fair, was the Flow Arts Showcase, produced by Xavier and Phillip and a host of others on the team.  This was an amazing event held in conjunction with P Tyrone Presents dance party "Play".  Yours truly even did a showcase number, after holding out for a while on signing up.  It was amazing to see talents from San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles, and other local communities.  Later in the evening during the party, the flag performance team, "ForePlay" that I helped assemble last year, took the floor, performing to Christina Aguilar’s "Hurt – Deeper Mindset Tight Mix".  The performance was amazing and I hope to have a video link to this performance available very soon.

Finally, following everything that weekend, Sunday night (or very early Monday morning) we headed to the End Up in San Francisco to ring in my birthday.  It was wonderful to have some of my close friends, some new friends, and many others there to celebrate with me.  Thanks to Dan, Phillip, John, Glenn, Keith, Partic, Joe, Robert, Scott, Everett, and Russ and others who came over to celebrate.  We shut the place down, which is something I have not done in years, but the camaraderie around the fountain spinning poi and flags and socializing, as well as dancing was just the perfect birthday for me.

So there you have, birthdays and celebrations San Francisco style.
